On March 17th, the second span of steel box girder was successfully installed on the spot and connected with the first one for the works of Contract Package CB03 of Hong Kong -Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Project, marking the perfect completion of the first time steel box girder butt jointing.
The second span of box girder is 110m long and 33.1m wide with a total weight of 2289t. The installation works started at 10:00am and completed at 16:00pm for a duration of 6 hours. Being different from the method used for the first span, the installation for the second span of box girder needed to adopt the “triple corbel” position adjustment technology to complete horizontal positioning. The “triple corbel” position adjustment technology, critical for girder alignment and innovative domestically will be extensively applied in the following steel box girders’ installation .The completion of the first time butt jointing between girders verified the feasibility of the technology and laid a solid technical foundation for subsequent works.
