Work on West Artificial Island of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge Starts
The first steel cylinder of the West Artificial Island of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge in China was erected on May 1st, 2017, marking the start of construction of the cross-sea project.
The West Artificial Island is located at the Lingding Sea area around the estuary of Pearl River. Diamond shaped, the Artificial Island above the sea level will be 137,000 square meters in area, equivalent to 19 standard soccer fields.
It cost about 3 hours from early preparation to completion of the first steel cylinder erection. To carry out construction under complex and rough sea conditions with water depth reaching 13 to 15 meters, 12-vibrator-hammer linkage technique is adopted to erect the steel cylinders. Each of cylinders weighs 637.4 tons and is 28 meters in diameter and 38.5 meters in height. Erection of 56 more steel cylinders shall be completed in the following 4 months. (Zhao Li)
