Successful Vibro-extraction of Large-Diameter Steel Cylinder for Bridge Works of Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge

Trial vibro-extraction of a large diameter steel cylinder for the Bridge Works under Contract Package CB03 of Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge being executed by CCCC-FHEC was conducted successfully on 25 Nov. 2012. Zhu Yongling, Director of Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge Administration Bureau and top managerial officials of CCCC-FHEC, Mao Yuanping, Li Yiyong, Mi Xiaochen, Wang Hongtao, Zhao Chuanlin, Ma Baocheng and Wang Yunguo were present to witness the vibro-extraction operation on site.

During the vibro-extraction, a 4000 t floating crane, which is the largest being currently used for the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge works, hoisted the OctaKong vibratory pile driver/extractor unit to grab and hold the steel cylinder firmly and steadily, and, by readjusting the power system and the up-pull force from time to time, extracted eventually the whole large-diameter steel cylinder from the sea, which marked the successful completion of the four-month long prototype tests of installation and extraction of large-diameter steel cylinders for installing precast pile caps in the dry.(Zhao Li)
